Treatments to Tighten Loose Skin

Often, fine lines can be fended off with moisturizer, primer and an ever-present water bottle, but when skin starts to sag it is time to get serious about skin care.

What Causes Loose Skin?

The supportive layers of your skin are made up of proteins, primarily collagen and elastin. Collagen makes up 80% of your skin's structure, providing firmness. Elastin helps your skin stay tight by providing elasticity so your skin will “snap back” when stretched or wrinkled.

Aging

As we age, our skin loses the collagen and elastin that keep it firm and tight. With age, the body also loses fat tissue, which keeps skin plumped. Without fat under the surface, skin can look deflated and saggy.

Sun Exposure

If your skin is loose and sagging in areas that receive excessive sun exposure, sun damage may be a contributor. The sun's rays damage skin cells, which can increase the effects of aging by breaking down your collagen and elastin.

Weight Loss

When you gain weight, your skin expands. When the skin has been significantly stretched and remains that way for a long time, collagen and elastin fibers become damaged and lose some of their ability to shrink or snapback, leaving skin loose when the tension disappears. Patients who lose weight through weight loss surgery also have been found to produce less new collagen to support the loosened skin.

Pregnancy

While the expanded skin of pregnancy typically shrinks back into shape in the months following birth, some women find they still have loose skin long after their pregnancy, especially in the abdominal area.

Improving Loose Skin

Blush Aesthetics offers several treatments, and combination options, to improve the elasticity of your skin.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally-invasive treatment used to tackle problems such as scarring, stretch marks, skin laxity and some very common signs of aging.

Microneedling Treats the Following Common Skin Issues:

  • Skin laxity (loose skin)
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Scars resulting from acne, trauma, surgery or illness
  • Stretch marks
  • Signs of sun damage

Forever Young BBL™

Blush offers Forever Young BBL™ laser treatment by Sciton®, which addresses sagging skin and fine lines and wrinkles, without surgery. While many therapies can provide the appearance of facial rejuvenation, only BBL™ light therapy was found in a Stanford Study to actually change the gene expression in patients to create younger cells.

Forever Young BBL™ treats deeper layers of the skin where the most aging is occurring, stimulating your body's natural ability to regenerate healthy, new skin.

Forever Young BBL™ is recommended for:

  • Skin firmness, elasticity and tone
  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Fine lines
  • Rosacea
  • Acne

Micro-Infusion Facials

Micro-infusion facials combine microneedling with other skin treatments to optimize the results. While microneedling creates microscopic channels in the skin, a custom blend of products soaks into the deeper layers where the skin generates new cells. The dual treatment triggers collagen production and supports skin, making it firmer and smoother.

Micro-Infusion Facials can include:

  • Dermal Cleansing and Infusion: Deep clean the skin while infusing serums.
  • Microcurrent: This “natural facelift” helps erase fine lines and wrinkles, firms skin, improves muscle tone, reduces puffiness and tightens pores,
  • Diamond Dermabrasion: Microdermabrasion with a diamond-tipped wand removes the dead, dull outer layer of skin.

At Blush, Micro-Infusion Facials are customized to address your specific skincare concerns, including loose skin.

Depending on the products used, microneedling can help treat:

  • Sagging skin
  • Large pores
  • Fine lines
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Scarring caused by acne or injury
  • Rough, dry or dull skin
  • Facial sweating due to exercise, hormones or hot flashes

Micro-Infusion Facials are also a fast, comfortable way to enhance the effects of laser treatments and other facial treatments.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injected under the skin to add volume, smooth wrinkles and lift sagging skin.

JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® are FDA-approved injectable gels that contain Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the body. When injected, Hyaluronic acid works with your body by holding water at the injection site. The retained moisture gives the skin a plumper, more full appearance.

With dermal fillers, you will see immediate improvements with little downtime. Results from a dermal filler treatment at Blush last six to nine months for most patients.

Dermal filler benefits:

  • Lift sagging skin
  • Restore youthful shape to lips and face
  • Smoother skin
  • Fuller lips

Do-It-Yourself Starters

A good moisturizer loaded with ingredients such as vitamins A and C, alpha hydroxy acid or beta hydroxy acid can be a good first step when you begin to notice loose or sagging skin. Staying hydrated also keeps skin plump and firm, counteracting sagging. A healthy diet that includes plenty of antioxidants improves your skin's overall health, leaving you with younger-looking skin.

Loose or sagging skin can be difficult to eliminate using non-invasive or minimally invasive procedures. Women who have loose skin may see excellent results from these types of treatments or only minor improvements.
